James Legg, President and CEO

James Legg is the President and CEO of PHD Virtual. With over 22 years of management experience, Jim has a proven track record of building and growing companies. Prior to joining PHD Virtual Technologies Jim was the Vice President of World Wide Sales and Sales Operations at Idera from 2005 – 2012. Idera was consistently mentioned in the Fast Tech 50 from 2005 to 2011, and the 50 fastest growing companies in North America on Deloitte's 2007/2008 Technology Fast 50 list.

Prior to Idera Jim served as the Vice President of Sales at NetIQ Corporation and PentaSafe Security Technologies where he was involved in a successful acquisition of PentaSafe by NetIQ. Jim had various management responsibilities including Sales, Support, Professional Services and Sales Operations. While at PentaSafe revenues and bookings increased over 1000% in five years. Prior to PentaSafe Jim served as the Director of North American Sales at Peregrine Systems where he was involved in a successful Initial Public Offering. Jim started in management at BMC Software where he opened and managed the first remote North American offices for BMC Software.

Jim attended the University of Denver and continued graduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Steve Kahan, Chief Marketing Officer

Steve Kahan serves as chief marketing officer for PHD Virtual. In this role, Steve is responsible for global campaign marketing, product management, partner marketing, branding and marketing communications as well as public and analyst relations.

Steve has over twenty-five years of experience building high energy, high commitment organizations that produce breakthrough revenue growth. Prior to PHD Virtual, Steve most recently was Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for Quest Software. Prior to that role, Steve served as Vice President of Marketing at The Planet (acquired by Softlayer), Bindview (acquired by Symantec), Postini (acquired by Google), PentaSafe (acquired by NetIQ) and was President and CEO of eSecurity  (acquired by Novell).

Steve holds a B.S. in Communications from Illinois State University.

Jeff Robinson, Chief Financial Officer

Jeff Robinson is the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the financial, legal and HR operations of PHD Virtual. Jeff is a senior financial and operations executive with over 25 years’ experience in public and private, international, technology, emerging growth and service businesses. He has spent the last 10 years in financial leadership roles for global technology companies.

Prior to joining PHD Virtual, Jeff was the vice president of finance and chief financial officer of LabVantage Solutions, an innovative provider of enterprise lab informatics systems, where he was responsible for the global finance, administration, legal and IT functions. During his tenure, Jeff negotiated a multimillion dollar acquisition that doubled the size of LabVantage Solutions in revenue and expanded its footprint throughout Europe and Asia-pacific.

Prior to LabVantage Solutions, Jeff has held various executive financial management positions at companies such as IBM, Princeton Softech, ServiceWare Technologies, The Icon Group and Aetna Health Plans. His experience includes IPOs, acquisitions and divestures.

Jeff is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a B.S. in Accounting from King’s College.

Donna Grare, Vice President of Engineering

Donna Grare is the Vice President of Engineering and is directly responsible for managing the development, testing, and support for all PHD Virtual software products. With over 25 years of technical and managerial experience, Donna brings a wealth and depth of expertise in the core areas of virtualization, product development and consulting. She specializes in operational delivery, project management, team building, architecture design, development, and implementation of high quality, commercial software.

Prior to joining PHD Virtual, Donna was the VP of Engineering for AppZero, responsible for product development, product management, QA and support of this award winning application virtualization product. While at AppZero, Donna successfully directed the development of a cross-platform software product that supported Microsoft Windows (server and desktop platforms), Solaris, and Linux.

Before AppZero, Donna was the Managing Director and Partner at several technology firms. At Gotham Technology Group, Donna initiated and constructed the applications group, executing $1MM+ software implementations. Prior to that, Donna created Stratis Group, an award winning consultancy, which was subsequently acquired by Internosis (subsequently acquired by EMC), where Donna served as partner, designing, building and deploying applications and products for starts ups and fortune 100 companies. Before Stratis Group, Donna was a Managing Director for Micro Modeling (which later became Dell Plural).

Donna is both ITIL and PMI certified, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree of Mathematics from Stockton College.

Shawn Brady, Vice President of Sales

Shawn Brady is the Vice President of Sales and is responsible for PHD Virtual’s global sales and channel organization. Shawn started with PHD Virtual in 2011 and served as the VP of Sales Operations where he successfully led the sales team to seven consecutive quarters of record revenue growth. 

Prior to joining PHD Virtual, Shawn was the Director of Sales at Shunra Software, a pioneer in providing leading edge application performance engineering solutions, where he was responsible for the sales organization.  Shawn has also held senior sales and management positions at Bank of America and Lincoln Education Services. 

Shawn holds Bachelor of Administration degree from High Point University.

Carlos Escapa, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Disaster Recovery Solutions

Carlos Escapa is the General Manager of Disaster Recovery Solutions for PHD Virtual. Prior to PHD Virtual, Carlos served as co-founder and CEO of VirtualSharp Software, an innovating provider of Disaster Recovery Assurance for Virtual Data centers. Carlos has over twenty-five years experience in senior leadership roles with global technology companies. He was General Manager of VMware in Southern Europe. Prior to that, Carlos was Vice President of Channels EMEA at CA Technologies and Senior Director of Marketing in Japan at Sterling Software.

Carlos has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Illinois State University, cum laude, and a Master’s degree from Virginia Tech, cum laude. 

 

Board of Directors

Mr. Mike Triplett

Mr. Triplett is a Managing Director at Insight Venture Partners. For the past 14 years he has invested in Infrastructure Software companies, among which his successes include Quest Software (Nasdaq: QSFT), Authorize.net, Solarwinds (NYSE: SWI), Acronis, Parallels and Scriptlogic. He joined Insight in 1998 from Summit Partners, where he focused on investments in infrastructure and enterprise application software companies. Prior to joining Summit, Mr. Triplett worked as a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley & Co. and at Midland Data Systems. Mr. Triplett graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA in Economics, cum laude.

 

Mr. Richard Wells

Mr. Wells is a Principal at Insight Venture Partners. He joined Insight in 2005 after serving as an investment team member at Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV), where his interests included software and online media and commerce. Mr. Wells also spent several years working with technology companies as a manager and strategy consultant. He worked in product management for enterprise data protection products at Veritas Software (now part of Symantec), and in field sales for Paciolan Systems (now part of Ticketmaster). Mr. Wells also worked as a management consultant with Mercer Management Consulting. He received a BS from the University of Pennsylvania (Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude) and a MBA from the Harvard Business School.

 

Kevin M. Klausmeyer

Mr. Klausmeyer served on the board of Quest Software (Nasdaq: QSFT), an enterprise software solutions company from July 2003 to September 2012. He most recently served on the Special Committee of the Quest Software board which oversaw a process to maximize shareholder value. This process resulted in Dell’s acquisition of the Company on September 25, 2012 at a 40% premium. Through February 2011, Mr. Klausmeyer was the Chief Financial Officer of The Planet, a leading provider of dedicated web hosting products and services. Before joining The Planet Mr. Klausmeyer was Chief Financial Officer of RLX Technologies, a developer of management and provisioning software for utility computing environments. RLX was acquired by Hewlett-Packard Company in October 2005. Mr. Klausmeyer was chief financial officer of PentaSafe Security Technologies, a provider of security management software solutions which was acquired by NetIQ in December 2002. He also served as the Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer of BMC Software (Nasdaq: BMCS) for a period of six years, following 13 years of practice in public accounting. As a software finance professional, Mr. Klausmeyer was a member of the AICPA's Software Revenue Recognition Taskforce from 1998 until its dissolution in 2005. Mr. Klausmeyer graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas with a BBA in Accounting.
