VMworld Breakout Session to Share “Why You Should Be Using Virtual Backup Appliances for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery”

MOUNT ARLINGTON, N.J. – August 25, 2009 — PHD Virtual Technologies, provider of the pioneering esXpress data protection and recovery solution for virtual machines, today announced that two of its company experts will be presenting a breakout session during VMworld 2009 titled, “Why you should be using Virtual Backup Appliances for business continuity and disaster recovery.” The session, presented by Alex Mittell, director and senior virtualization architect for PHD Virtual and Douglas Soltesz, senior technical sales engineer for PHD Virtual, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 during VMworld 2009 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, session ID# BC 4580 in room 132.

“Companies of all sizes can benefit from the use of Virtual Backup Appliances (VBAs) which provide a business continuity and disaster recovery solution that’s scalable, more efficient and highly cost effective with per host licensing as well as unlimited sockets and unlimited cores,” said Mittell. “Our VMworld session will explore the architecture of a VBA and how it delivers comprehensive, fault tolerant data protection for virtual environments. The presentation will also compare and contrast the various methods of backing up VMware environments, such as agent based, VCB and service console, with the new method of choice: Virtual Backup Appliances.”

VBAs – small virtual machines – are at the core of the PHD Virtual data protection and recovery solution, esXpress. By creating VBAs, esXpress can be deployed in minutes on VMware servers and provides the most scalable environment for backing up virtual machines. The unique esXpress architecture delivers rich features which will be discussed in depth during the VMworld session, including:

  • Fault tolerant, VMware DRS/HA aware and vMotion compatibility
  • Source-Side global deduplication across an entire ESX farm
  • Multi-user instant file level restores of any virtual machine
  • The most scalable performance - up to 16 backup streams per ESX host
  • Built-in incremental replication
  • Smart dynamic export to your existing tape solution
  • Self-extracting backup archive for software free self-restore

PHD Virtual will be demonstrating esXpress during VMworld 2009 in booth number 1502 and presenting its patent-pending deduplication appliance in the Solutions Exchange Theater on Tuesday, September 1 at 1:10 p.m. You may also learn about esXpress by visiting PHD Virtual’s virtual VMworld booth: http://www.vmworld.com/community/exhibitors/phdvirtual.
